I.                     The regular monthly meeting of the Threads of Friendship Guild was called to order at 6:30 p.m. on October 15, 2009, in the Farmington Senior Nutritional Center by President Phyllis Hargis.  Phyllis asked everyone who had finished a participation block to stand up and show their blocks.  Lots of ladies stood—blocks are looking good!

III.                  Program—The Friendship Group, “Piecemakers,” provided everyone with material and thread and demonstrated how to do “Chicken Scratch” stitching on gingham fabric.  As everyone worked on her project, the “Piecemakers” gave assistance to those who needed help.  Bobbie offered her assistance before future guild meetings if anyone is interested in learning new things about Chicken Scratch or just needs help with it.  Thanks, Piecemakers, for a well-prepared and informative program!

IV.                 Business meeting

a.       Reports

                                             i.                        Library—Judy’s husband has braced up the sagging shelves in our library cabinet.  Our thanks to him, Judy!  Judy mentioned she would like to order books on charms since we are doing the charm exchange each month.  Loretta Smith made a motion to allow Judy to spend up to $100 from the educational fund for the purchase of charm books; motion was seconded and carried by a show of hands.

                                            ii.                        Classes/Workshops/Activities:

a.                               Report of October 9-10 Craft Bazaar at O’Fallon MO—Barb reported the craft bazaar was a bust.  She reported the affair was misrepresented as there was no way there were 10,000 people in attendance.  Despite the low attendance, the event itself brought in a net total of $360.50.  Another $95 was reported to have been turned in by Judy Douglas for items made and sold.

A Motion was made by Donna Tinsley to have a booth at the St. Joe craft fair on November 14th from 9 to 3 and then bring leftover items to the December meeting for the guild members to buy; motion was seconded and carried by a show of hands.  Those volunteering to work at the St. Joe fair are:  Judy Carrier, Mary Beth Parrish, Lori Younker, Loretta Smith, Cris Sumski, and Linda Nickelson.

b.                               November 11th Veteran’s Day Quilts of Valor Sew-in—Martha Smith announced we had received a $100 check for Naomi Hulsey’s VFW group for the quilts of valor efforts.  Thanks, Naomi!  Martha says we will work on November 11th sewing and putting together 10 quilts of valor.  The kits for the 10 quilts will already be cut and ready to go first thing that morning.  If you have questions, please contact Martha.  Otherwise, please plan to be there to work and bring a sack lunch—it will be fun!  Time: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Place:  Farmington Senior Citizen Center

c.                               December Mini Retreat—Barb announced the mini retreat will be held on Saturday, December 19th, at the Methodist Church.  It will be an all-day sew, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., to work on UFOs.  Members agreed that would also be a good time to work on the Dresden Plate blocks.  See Barb to sign up tonight or sign up at the November guild meeting.

d.                               January 23, 2010 Purse Class with Phyllis Vandergriff—Barb will have more information on this class at the November meeting.  Phyllis reminded us we had already been shown the different purses and had voted on which one to make at a previous meeting.

iii.                        Report on September 26th Quilt Show—Lori said 90% of the quilt show visitors were from Farmington and attendance was good.  Joyce White made a motion to pay the four truck drivers $35 each for gasoline for making the trip to and from Cape Girardeau with the quilt stands; motion was seconded and carried by a show of hands.

iv.                        Raffle Quilt 2009-10—Mary Beth Parrish reported the quilt top is ready to quilt.  She asked for a volunteer to longarm quilt it but got no response.  So, it will be at least two months before it will be finished.  There was discussion about how and when we want to raffle the quilt.  There will be more discussion next month.

                                            v.                        Comment Card—Phyllis asked that we all fill out a comment card and turn it in before leaving.

VI.                 New Business

a.       Comment Card:  Do we need a fundraiser other than raffle quilt?  Do we want to bring in a national teacher?  If yes, who would you suggest or what skill would you like to learn?  After some discussion, Phyllis asked that each member present answer these two questions on the back of their comment card.  The answers will be tallied and reported in November.
