Participation Block Fabric
Several ladies asked me where to get more of the fabrics we are using in the participation blocks. I want to say, several of the quilt shops carry these fabrics. We happened to purchase from Heyde because they gave us 20% off. Heyde's address is 5451 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis. Their phone is 314 843-1168. The dark fabric is by Blank Textiles Inc., pattern # BTR-3770. The light fabric is Solitaire Whites IV by E.E. Schenek Co. #2217-W. Should you go to Heyde's, we are listed under Threads of Friendship Quilting Guild in their computer if you want to make sure you get the exact fabrics. I suggest you let the shop know you are there because you are a member of our guild and ask for a discount. We do not have any contract with them and they do not usually offer any discount to our members but if/when they realize you are there because you are a TOFQG member; they may start offering a
discount to our membership. When I was trying to develop shop friends, they did grant a 15% discount for the month their ad was run on our web page. Let's just say, it won't hurt to ask. Good Luck with your shopping and good luck making the participation blocks. --BV
***September 2009 Comments/Suggestions/Responses***
Comments:
1. I like the program after show-and-tell (5 responses)
2. One the bazaar & quilt show are done, I think we need to slow down. Too many things are going on.
3. Like the new room set up!
4. New seating arrangement – this is too close for comfort.
5. Probably need to get folks to move closer to program.
Suggestions:
1. Class – Crazy Quilt RESPONSE: We will add this to the options for next year.
2. Dresden Blocks (a) Divide and do auction in guild, (b) Make 1 or more raffle quilts out of the blocks [9 responses], (c) If someone will set, use these for a raffle quilt. With the extra blocks, donate to a worthy cause/hospital, etc. (d) Make lap quilts to donate to a nursing home or PATH. RESPONSE: These options will be on the agenda for a vote. Please consider how you would like to use the blocks.
3. Divide charm squares evenly rather than doubling up what some people take home & having to keep track & having to draw numbers RESPONSE: See article regarding Charm Square activity.
4. Could we change winners of drawings to “must be present to win”? RESPONSE: This will be on the agenda.
5. Why does anyone care if folks come early? RESPONSE: As president of the guild, I don’t care that people arrive early. Early arrivers do need to understand that the officers need time to set up and distribute their participation in the guild activities. Officers generally arrive about 5:30.
Comment Question for October
Do we want to have a fundraiser other than the annual raffle quilt? Do we want to bring in a national teacher? If yes, who would you suggest or what skill would you like to learn?

Charm Packs
The Charm Pack activity still has kinks. When the executive committee decided to start the “Charm Pack” activity, LaVada (hospitality officer) readily volunteered to oversee it. But, this just added too much to her other responsibilities (managing show-and-tell, greeting members, and welcoming new members), and she asked to be relieved of the Charm Pack activity. I certainly appreciate her efforts but understand that she needed to focus on her hospitality duties…she can’t do everything. LaVada, thank you for your efforts. You were able to get the activity off the ground and going!
Loretta Smith and Cris Sumski have volunteered to take over the Charm Pack activity. Barb Kirk has agreed to substitute if one of them needs to be gone. They will be modifying the Charm Pack activity. As members enter the room to distribute their 56 squares, Loretta or Cris will collect their labeled plastic bags. If a member has more than one set of squares, the member should have each set in its own labeled plastic bag. If members have extra squares, these squares will be collected by either Loretta or Cris.
Based on the plastic bag count, they will create stacks that have an equal number of squares. In other words, if they have 30 plastic bags, they’ll put a complete stack in each back. Then, they will try to equally distribute the extra 26 stacks plus any extra squares among the 30 bags. Hopefully, everyone will go home with a variety of at least 56 squares. Please realize that the count may a few more or less, but the goal is for every bag to have 56 squares.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
Thank You!
I really appreciate Bobbie and Linda, who assisted with Show-and-Tell. Personally, I think it worked so much better. Thanks!
