Announcements

The upcoming retreat is scheduled for Sept. 19-20, 2008. It will be in the fellowship hall of the Methodist Church in Farmington. Guild members will be asked to register before August 12 so we have an idea of who is participating. The cost is $45.00 for two days. Friday afternoon will be UFO night (un-finished object), dinner catered by Pasta House, games, gifts, sundae bar and pajama party. Saturday is workshop day with several to choose from. For breakfast, everyone has to fend for themselves, but lunch is provided. There will be sub sandwiches. Pre-registration will be available this month.

The guild program for the August meeting will be handled by the Stasher Sisters (contact person – Janet Murphy). Block of the month for August put together by the Crazy Scrappers.

The product of the month for July to give to the Senior Center is all purpose flour. Give a bag of all purpose flour and receive a piece for your participation block.

Minutes of June 10, 2008

President Nancy Medley called the meeting to order. There were no new members and no guests. Those participating in show and tell were: Donna Haus with a scrappy 6 point star, Ginny Ward with a sampler quilt she's raffling, Judy Douglas with a postage stamp quilt (her husband made), Kay King with a pink crazy quilt for the Relay for Life raffle, Loretta Smith with a double sided place mat she made using the “Betty Cotton Theory”, Saphrona Brewington with an appliqued poppies quilt kit, Debbie Thurston with a ragged edge (quilt as you go) baby quilt, Nina Vieth with a pink and blue baby quilt she worked on in the after meeting workshop, Leslie Reinitz with “Home in the Woods” a beginner quilting class, the Busy Bobbins showed two quilts that Mary Beth Parrish brought in for the women's shelter. Thanks everyone for the beautiful quilt they showed.

As always pictures are available on the Kodak website: kodakgallery.com. Use the guild email: tofqg2007@yahoo.com. The password is: Threads.

Reports – Judy Carriere reported there are 4 new books in the library. Some of the books are mystery novels by Monica Ferris. Kay King reported there were 41 members in attendance. The IRS wants us to add a conflict of interest amendment to our constitution. No quilt shop reports. Janet reminded everyone that our retreat is set for Sept. 19-20. The Senior Center donation for this month was bottled salad dressings. The discussion for a cash donation to the Center will wait until the fall. Old Business – The minutes of last month meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was read and approved and is as follows. The audit of the financial books for the past year was done by Martha Smith and Ginny Ward. Thank you for your work ladies. Nancy mentioned that it is time we think about the St. Joe Craft Fair held in November. We need everyone to make and donate items for the fair. Also “Pricers” are needed ahead of time to evenly price like items. Let Nancy know if you are available to do this. Nancy said we never actually adopted “A Friend's Place” as our charity of the year. A vote will be made next month. There will be a change in the program drawing: We will continue to have the 50/50 drawing, the block of the month drawing, and door prizes. The drawing for an item (usually a book or an bag) that members buy chances for will be discontinued. Instead, a fat quarter drawing will be in its place. The idea of the fat quarter drawing is everyone brings in at least one fat quarter (or more) and the quarter are divided up into set of 10. Depending on how many sets of 10 there are winners will be drawn. For each quarter brought in, you will get a chance to win. Example: if you bring in 3 fat quarters, you will have 3 chances to win. Plus the fact that we are drawing for several winners. Possibly 10! For the July meeting, bring in fat quarters that are from patriotic fabric. A suggestion box for those who have an idea about our programs or meetings will be set up and ready for the July meeting. It will be out each meeting. So if you want to say something but want to remain announomous here is your chance. Nancy suggested the Guild host a quilt show. The show would be exhibition only and not a judged show. We would charge a small fee. There would be a raffle quilt and maybe venders. Someone had the idea that the guild should put together a book about the block of the month patterns and have pictures of each block that we have done. The charter quilt has been put together, but there is need for a center block with the guild's logo designed into it. It was suggested that we have a competition to decide what it will look like. Exact size of logo block will be announced at the July meeting. Sketch out your idea, color it in and we will have a vote later this summer.

We drew for program and block of the month. Each friendship group will be responsible for both the program for that night and the block of the month. This will give each friendship group an opportunity to teach or explain the block of the month as a program. Draws were as follows:

On pins and needles – June 2009

Stasher sisters – July 2009 and October 2008

Busy bobbins – April 2009

Better late than never – December 2008 and March 2009
