July 8, 2008 Minutes

Pres. Nancy Nedley call the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. There were no visitors but 39 members attended. The current membership stands at 54. A new year is upon us. You will have to pay your dues ($20.00) to be a member. I (Barbara) want to remind you that you will receive a $10.00 certificate (to be used during the year) when you join. Sort of a round about way of paying ten bucks on twenty. Kay will try to contact members who have not re-uped for this year. If you know anyone interested in a quilt guild, don't be shy to invite them. There's a lot going on and the more the merrier.

Eleven members presented their work in the Show -N- Tell. If you missed it or just want to feast your eyes, remember you may go to our web page and use the link to Kodak Gallery. Enjoy!

Judy gave a brief "book report" of " Quick Rotary Cutter Quilts" with designs by Pam Bono. Judy even pieced a sample from the book. Good job Judy. There are several books in the library. Check one out soon.

Kay gave an update reguarding the Threads of Friendship Quilter's Guild corperation and our tax exempt status. The corperation needs to be renewed. We voted for Kay to pay the fee (we think it is $10.00) and then the state will be happy with us again. She is still working to get the IRS exemption.

Barbara (me) did not have a report from our shop friends. She reminded Nancy to appoint some one to this job. Freda Brower and Carol Grix volunteered to co-chair this responsibility. Barb will meet with the ladies to explain the job duties.

One of our members, Edna Gielow , has been in a bad auto accident. She is in critical condition at Barnes Hospital. Include Edna in your prayers and cards may be sent to her home: 1063 Wild Turkey, Bonne Terre, MO 63628,

Lori did not give a full financial report but did assure us we are in good standing with a balance of over $2,000.00.

The minutes were read and approved. Ha, ha. I sort of read the minutes just like Lori sort of gave her report. The minutes will be on line by the end of the month. I do want to suggest you read the minutes about a week prior to the meeting. That will give you time to take care of anything you need to get ready for the meeting. Reading the minutes is a great reminder of all you need to bring to the meeting lke money for blocks and 50/50, completed block of the month squares, a Show-N-Tell item, fat quarters, and etc.

Janet gave a report on the upcoming RETREAT. The cost is $45.00. Believe me, you will get your money's worth by attending. You may arrive any time after 2:00 PM Sept 19th. Fri. night you may work on any UFO or project. You may want to work on items for the Craft Fair. There are classes being offered for Sat: a quilted purse, hand quilting, "Call Me" quilt, and "Stack 'N' Whack:. You may want to attend one of these or just sew. Fri. dinner followed by a Sundae Bar and Sat. lunch will be provided. Since you are on your own, some will sleep over, some may go home, and some will stay up partying all night. (Good luck to those that think they may sleep over!) Bring any snack you wish to share and soft drinks. Sorry. No alcohol. I heard plans for games, fun and prizes. I hope I didn't let the cat out of the bag.

If you haven't done so, it's time to start working on items for the St. Joe's Craft Fair. We voted to get two booths. We need to find a way to disply our items. Ginny Ward offered to price the items but would like some one to help her. We must price similar items all the same. It's not to early to bring in items. Bring them in for Show-N-Tell and leave them for the price team. We need to decide what to do with the items we don't sell. Nancy said we may be in more than one craft/quilt show if the members are willing to make items and also work the day needed. We will need a sign up sheet so we know who will be working when.

Lori brought the "Charter Quilt" to the meeting. Janet has pieced a 9-patch for each circle. The blocks were given to each circle. Each "hand" block is to be signed using a pigma pen . The signed 9-patch blocks will be collected next month. There is a space 47" X 29 1/2" to be filled. Now, what can we put there? We're looking for ideas. It's a contest. Do you have an idea? Perhaps your circle can come up with the winning idea. We think TOFQG 2007 will have to be part of the plan. Contact Lori or Janet if you have questions.

There was mention of a block of the month binder with pictures and patterns as a history. Donna Tinsley has volunteered to work on this. She wants to gather samples of each block of the month to keep in one place. It was suggested we take a picture of each block. The pictures and patterns will be in one binder. We will be able to look through the binder to see what patterns have been used. An added bonus is that Donna hopes to have copies of the blocks available to any one who ask. Thank you Donna.

What kind of meeting would it be without drawing for prizes? Janet Murphy, Barbara Viitanen, and Joyce White won the fat quarter drawing. The 50/50 went to Martha Smith. Naomi Hulsey wnt home with a book for the door prize. Finally, the winner of the block of the month (sorry ladies, only one this month) went to Helen McDaniel. CONGRATS!

Remember to bring some fat quarters for the drawing next month. The theme is pastels. Bring one or more pastel fat quarters to the Aug. meeting and you will be automatically entered into the fat quarter drawing.

Janet introduced a new activity called "member's choice". No money involved ( to the naked eye ). Interested members received a ticket and a winning number was drawn. Diana Dawson won. Next month she will tell us what her choice is. She may ask us to bring in fat quarters. She may bring in fat quarters and ask us to piece for her. We don't know what she may ask for. We will have a month to make Diana's dream come true. The people who help make this happen will be in the next drawing. The winner of that drawing will be the one to get their choice in the comming month.

Loretta, Phyllis and Saphrona presented the program. The title is "Rulers and Cutting" Loretta demenstrated how she cuts her fabric using two rulers. This methods is for very accurate cutting. Saphrona showed two different tools and methods to make flying geese. She sure made it look easy. Phyllis demistrated the Square N Square tool. She made three different blocks in a short order with the same tool. She said she looks at the pictures in the book (not read it). The ladies did a great job.
