APRIL MEETING
The next meeting of the Threads of Friendship Quilt Guild will be April 8 at 6:30 at the Farmington Senior Center on Wallace Road behind Mineral Area Hospital.
Confusion!!!
If I’m good at nothing else, I’m good at creating confusion. Let’s see if I can clear up some of it.
RE: The VP Committee.
I appointed a committee (Carol Grix, Beverly Hovis, Melissa Thomas, and Cris Sumski) to assist Janet in developing workshops, classes, after meeting workshops, and other special guild activities. This group is not meant to provide the guild meeting programs – these will still be in the hands of the friendship groups. What the committee will do is help the vice president explore ideas, develop them into workshops or classes or other “special” activities, and participate in putting on the event.
RE: Guild Meeting Programs & Block-of-the-Month (See Programs & Block-of-the-Month on the guild website for the August-August schedule.)
In July 2007 when the friendship groups drew for programs and block-of-the-month, there were 8 friendship groups that “drew” for 12 months – running through the August 2008 meeting. This means that some friendship groups drew 2 programs and others drew 2 block-of-the-month over the year period.
RE: Next Year’s Programs & Block-of-the-Month
Probably in July, the friendship groups will draw for the next 8 -- 12 months. This time the friendship group will do both the block-of-the-month and the guild meeting program the same month. This will allow the group to use their program as a way to “teach” cutting, piecing, and squaring techniques for their block. If, however, the friendship group wants to do something separate from their block that is fine, too. The friendship group has great flexibility in determining the block-of-the-month and the program for the month.
RE: After Meeting Workshops
The “after meeting workshops” do not take the place of the meeting programs; they are in addition to the programs and are totally optional. There are some members who can stay for an after meeting workshop but find it very difficult to come to Saturday or week day workshop. Still, they want to learn and attend workshops. These “after meeting workshops” will be a way to meet the needs of some of the members. Naturally, they are not for everyone, but they are an attempt to respond to the needs of some of the members.
I hope this helps – please be patient and kind and remember that we are all very new at this.
Quilt Shop in Review – Red Rooster
The Red Rooster seems to have everything and then some: fabrics, thread, notions, books and quilting magazines, embroidery blocks, cross-stitch and so much more.
During April in addition to the 20% discount, our members may take advantage of three specials:
A free yard of fabric of every 5 yards purchased
Anchor and DMC embroidery floss - 2/$1.00
Free labor on framing when you buy the mat and frame.
Now is the time to take care of your framing needs. Other than quilting needs, the Red Rooster carry items for rubber stamping, beading, clay work, candles, hooked rugs, tatting and of course framing. There really are too many items to mention them all because this is a well-stocked craft and supply store. If you don't see what you want, just ask Tracy. She is always happy to show you what they have or do special orders.
Details and Itinerary for Paducah Bus Trip – Wednesday, April 23rd
This is such an exciting event for us – a bus to Paducah! I’m providing the itinerary for the bus, but I imagine the return time will be more like 9:00-9:30 rather than 8:45. We’ll decide on Option 1 and 2 on our way to Paducah. Does anyone have an idea for “bus activities?” I know, there is always the song 99 Quilters Around the Frame, but I thought maybe other fun activities would be good!
